I’ve just returned from a road trip across the USA, driving from Chicago to LA with John and Steve and following the path of the ‘Mother Road’ that is Route 66.
I think St Louis gets a pretty bad rap, but I was pleased to visit there and have one of the most memorable and enjoyable days of the trip. The City Museum was a great first stop; 10 storeys (plus a rooftop) of playground that would not be likely to pass heath and safety checks in the UK, but which gives both adults and children the opportunity to run around, climb, slide and simply enjoy themselves.
In the heart of the city itself there was quite a good vibe, with a beautiful old courthouse and this monument – the tallest arch in the world – standing proud, overlooking the city.
With 2,400 miles and 2 weeks available we didn’t hang around long enough to find any of the bad spots, so St Louis, and Missouri in general, were left with a good feeling and fond memories.
